Keeping Amaryllis

Enjoy beautiful flowers year after year

After the flowering period, many people throw their Amaryllis flower bulbs away. Understandably so, because the plant is less beautiful without the splendid flowers. Besides, many people believe the bulb dies after a single flowering period and will not flower again. Which is a pity! Because actually, there’s a very good chance that it will. The Amorita Amaryllis bulb can easily be kept and replanted in the autumn. Which means that after a few months, you can enjoy another colourful flowering period!

But what is the best way to keep the bulb of theAmorita Amaryllis?

Follow the steps below:

1. Remove the stems of the Amaryllis as soon as flowering period has ended.

2. Make sure you keep the bulb in a frost-free place. Do not let it wither but give it some water now and then. This will prevent the bulb from drying out.

3. After the winter, you can plant out the bulb in your garden. Please do so only once the risk of night frost has passed, otherwise the bulb will freeze and be destroyed. A useful date to keep in mind is May 15, known as the last day of late spring. After that, folk wisdom has it that the risk of night frost is really very small.

4. As soon as autumn makes its entrance, bring the bulb back indoors. Leave the bulb to dry for about six weeks at room temperature.

5. After this drying period, plant your bulb in a flowerpot and start regularly watering it from that moment on. You will have a beautiful Amaryllis again within a few weeks!
